Transmission issue

2006 Toyota Corolla does a thing when shifting gears. When I back out of the driveway (uphill angle) the car struggles to shift. I start the car and idle it for a few seconds then shift into reverse but the car acts like it is still parked (does not move even with foot off brake [ebrake is off] he doors do lock however) I put the car into neutral to just roll out but still does not move. At this point I put it back into park and waited a second then back into reverse. Upon giving it some gas the car moved very reluctantly I would say, as if it was resisting the movement. Then it seemed to kick in and reversed back at normally and taking speed from the throttle. Not sure if it does this on a level surface but only does it with reverse that I'm aware of, does not do it with drive.
