Have a 2005 that's had multiple transaxle problems (rebuilt twice). Things had been fine for over a year, but recently had a left axle leak that was fixed under warranty by the transmission shop. They said they went through the whole thing and replaced a bad bearing as well as the seal. It's no longer leaking but my regular mechanic says that there's too much "give" in the left axle. This is when it's up on the chassis lift with the wheels free. Transmission shop guy says that the play in that left axle is perfectly normal and within spec. (He says if the car is lifted with the wheels bearing the weight, there won't be any play.) Which guy is right? (I realize I'm not providing a precise measure of the amount of play.) Is there a spec that can be found online?
What's the normal "play" between the left axle and transaxle?
