I have a 2003 corolla automatic with 225K. Runs well. New tires, new brakes. No engine issues. Car hit a deer at 50 mph 4 y ago and was fixed. Recently engine light stayed on and car up for emissions Nov1 wouldn't pass. Took it to tech who said code read solenoid issue. Replaced the solenoid but after codes were cleared, I drove to 20 miles to cycle the codes and the light reappeared. The tech had said the solenoid fix had a 30-70 odds to remedy the issue, that there might be underlying transmission problems. The fluid was dark and a bit burnt.
So do I go for a 2K rebuild (he gives me 450 credit for the solenoid, so its 1500) or buy another car? Ive driven Toyotas to 275k twice.
