2000 Non-VVT Head Swap

#1
My gf has a 2000 prizm. The motor originally had the variable valve timing which had bad valves. So I replace the head to save time since I had to do all this in one day and it was a Sunday so no machine shop was open to take care of the valves. So the head I used was a '99 corolla without the vvt, I used the '99 head cams "lifters" or what ever that term is for those.

I know the engine will run. Its been running just fine but now its hard to start. Did I miss something here. The only sensor that was replaced was the camshaft position sensor that I re-used from the old head. Are they different?
I've heard they run fine even if you unplug the oil control valve that controls the vvt.

Edit: So I guess I should tell you the problem. The problem is it takes forever to start, it cranks and cranks and cranks then suddenly fires right up and runs perfect.
