Hey all, I have had this neat old 1982 Wagon for about a year now. It is actually in beautiful shape and only sitting at 121000 miles. Runs great and has never choked in any way. It is still a young car. The only real issue has been the starter. From the beginning it has had what I believe the be a heat soak issue. After replacing the starter now 5 times, and this last time, wrapping a heat shield around both the start and the nearby exhaust manifold, alas, it still has trouble. Often after I have driven for enough time for the engine to heat up pretty good and then I let it sit for a bit, it will not start. I believe that I can hear the solenoid clicking, but of course the engine not turning over.
Some more things you should know, there is a large sound system in it. The electricity flow of the system has been carefully analyzed and I do not believe it is the problem. The front battery is connected in parallel to a battery in the back and also a capacitor. The front battery sends power directly to the starter and it self grounds to the car.
