Redline In Sport Mode

#1
Today while driving i decided to put my car in "sport" mode at a stop and as soon as i took off i floored it and usually the car would shift "gears" but the car stuck in its "1st gear" and went to redline and it didnt "shift" i back off the pedal until the RPM's drop to around 3k and accelerated again and same thing happened and so i took it off "sport" mode and it went to driving normal. Anyone else have a issue of the same sort? I would take it to the dealer as i still have warranty but i have installed a k&n intake and knowing my toyota service they'd itch me about that or void the warranty.

Holy crap that's awesome! Can you shift it yourself with the paddles? Or it won't shift at all? Never happened for me though sadly, I would have so much fun hitting 8k rpm

The K&N shouldn't void the warranty unless that's the cause it won't shift in sport mode on its own but I highly doubt that. I have a K&N INTAKE and it's always been service with it.

I was to surprised/shocked to see it redline so I didn't try anything else, I did however try to replicate it again after an hour or so but no luck it's driving normal for now

I see, if it seems to happen again i'll take it in and keep you guys posted

Do you remember doing anything at all to the car before that which might have caused the malfunction?

that I totally agree. I would not want to do that.

I have to check about how to remove the side view lamp, and the red line. I may not getto either but will do my best I rather be saf than sorry. if I do it I won't be gunning it in a public space but more out of the way area to be safe.

Did no one listen to me? The problem you had is you hit the paddle shifter and it stuck it in first gear. Then when you let off the gas and then went back on it the computer kicked in and switched it back

tSo what you're saying is the OP gave gas and he canforce to stay in 1st, nnd etc? one gear? if he or she gets off the gas pedal, and laysback on the the gear will go back to normal D driving?

I know when I drove this if in 3rd and you don't shift in the M mode and you stop it resets to 1st gear not D you haveto shift out of the gear.

I know if you start o high then it will auto correct. to a lower gear. from my memory of driving it last Nov, hoping to get the same S model fingers crossed

When in regular D or automatic, you can use the paddle shifters to shift as if you are in manual. It will say D1, D2, etc for what gear you are in. If you are redlining it on a gear or not giving it enough the computer will switch it back so regular D

Sorry Guys Only car in Stock are LE's they don't have the synchro shift or padels and will not risk the leased car I own.

I wanted another color and if I taken a silver it be a Altima

Man the LE is the Lesser model it iswhat it is I never buy a lower end corolla Lol

800 miles love it

I totally understand thanks for the clearification. you have to shift. or the limitor takes over

ok guy i fanally figured out when your corolla stays in redline. I was driving home in heav rain and i gave a bit more gas then i should of on green and my tires started spinning and i had traction control 90% off. while they where spinning i was sitting at redline, then i stopped and reaccelereated and then i hit 5000 rpm i started spinning tires again and it stayed on redline and would not shift up, even when i tried to upshift it wouldnt let me.
My idea is that the corolla is programed to "Shift" at a certain speed and not whn you hit a certain RPM.

I agree. I noticed that as well. I was trying to overtake someone on the highway, i reached about 4000-5000 rpm, the gear wouldn't shift nor let me do it. I kept going and once I reached a certain speed-It shifted up.
