    2004 Corolla - Inheriting

Agreed! Do it yourself and use quality fluids and parts. Do it yourself and have peace of mind it has been done right. Wrenching is easy. Time is usually the problem.

    Corolla Front Brake Job

The retaining screws on those rotors only serves to keep the rotor on as it moves along an assembly line in the manufacturing process. It actually serves no other purpose later on, as the wheel and caliper hold the rotor on just fine.

    Corolla Front Brake Job

I hate those retaining screws they put on rotors. I did a brake job on my Discovery a couple months back... took about two hours in total to get those 4 bloody retaining screws off with an impact. Probably didn't help that it was my first brake job either... but brakes are pretty easy... what...

    2004 Corolla - Inheriting

Per another post just previous to yours, I would check the tranny fluid. If it is original, it is about 100,000 miles overdue. Might want to take it somewhere and just have a good general service done such as flushing tranny fluid, flush power steering fluid, flush brake fluid, check all belts...

    Help!

If I had to guess, it sounds like you are drawing too much power off your battery and maybe your alternator is not pumping enough juice at idle to keep your fuel pump running like it should... hence the misfires and rough idle.

    Help!

Is the engine misfiring? Or just vibrating? If only vibrating really bad, it could be motor mounts. If it is misfiring, you will have to do some more digging. I would guess it is completely UNRELATED to your subs. Believe me, I own a Land Rover Discovery, and I always think things go out...

    Oil Filter Fear

Not a bad idea at all. I just bought ramps. For often as I am working on my cars they come in handy. Although since I lifted my Rover I don't need them to work under there anymore :)

    Frozen/Sticking Caliper?

Well I don't think it's the brakes. I visually inspected all of them and they look to be top shape. Pads are about 50%. Rotors looked great too. Just to make sure I didn't miss anything, I had Big O look at them, and they gave me the same conclusion. No problems with the brakes at all. My wife...

    Frozen/Sticking Caliper?

I hope that's it. I need to inspect my brakes anyway because it's about time to do a brake job. How long do our rotors last? Can they be re-surfaced? Or should I just throw new ones on while I do the pads? Also, what pads are recommended? I have Akebono ceramics on my Rover and LOVE them...

    Frozen/Sticking Caliper?

Hey guys, So when I apply the brakes, I hear a sort of "grinding" that continues after I let off the brakes. It eventually will subside, until I apply the brakes again. I think the pads are alright; I'm going to check them after work today. Has anyone had issues with a frozen/sticky caliper on...

    Oil Filter Fear

Well I read it. Great post Scott on proper oil change procedure. The safety goggles is really a must as I can't tell you how many times working under my Rover or Corolla, crud gets in my eyes! It's the worst.

Knocking Sound in the Front Wheels

Warn suspension can cause this. How many miles? Have you replaced shocks/struts before?

    Replacing Headlight Assembly

I just put the halo projector lights on my 06. Very easy install even with the extra wiring for the "halos". Those headlights should be even easier as you just put your headlights into that housing and then bolt them in. No extra wiring would be necessary if you are not adding additional lights...

    Corolla Carnage

Did it damage the radiator at all? Thankfully ours are so far back I wouldn't be surprised if the radiator didn't even get touched... glad your fiance is all right. Probably not the same for the motorcyclist...

    Anyone Installed Aftermarket For Lights?

Awesome. I would really appreciate your help. The green one plugs into the switch (not pictured). I am guessing the black open-ended connection goes to a ground, and the yellow connects to the black connector (in the picture below). But what about that brown connector that is labeled...

Engine Not Cranking But Lights and Controls Work

A little more information would be helpful. Does it make a clicking sound like it is trying to turn over? Have you ruled out a bad fuel pump?

    Reset Maint. Required

You can youtube it. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gLctK_nHLY&NR=1&feature=fvwp Although this is for the 09, it works the same except that the mileage must be set to the ODOMETER, NOT TRIP. You put the key in, make sure the mileage is on the odometer, turn the key off, hold...
