2005 Corolla - RPM's Jump 100 Everytime I Shift Gears

#1
I bought a 2005 toyota corolla with 200000 miles on it. I do not know when the clutch was replaced last if at ALL. Doesn't seem to be slipping all that bad, but everytime I shift gears the rpms seem to jump about 100 everytime. I plan on replacing the clutch, but I just wanted to see if there were other options. Some people say that their car has the same symptom upon cold starts. I just need a little help to get me in the right direction. Thanks

If you have throttle on the engine just before you shift, that's normal.

If you want to verify a slipping clutch, best method is to start the car in neutral, go into first, hold the brake hard, then let out the clutch. If the car takes more than a second to stall, the clutch is on its last leg. A clutch in good condition will stall the engine almost immediately.
