The airbag light flashing is your car telling you something is malfunctioning with the air bag system. It will need to be diagnosed by a professional automotive technician. There's no easy answer here, as it could be many different things causing the light to go off. A competent Toyota dealers Service Department will be your best bet.

RSilver1 - Any update on this issue? Corolla Forum members would like to know!:)

Did you take the car back to a Toyota dealer for warranty coverage of this problem?

I wonder if your CO2 canister is shot, something that can be very costly, If a plug is disconnected under the seat, or something leaning, on a sensor or seat, can cause the Airbag light to go.

So it can be a sensor gone bad to a co2 canister.

As this is an important sensor, some air bags will not deploy even in working order.

Toyota actually has a pending recall on certain ... 2009 to 2011 airbags, I believe, for the Corolla. The wiring for the driver's side airbag can become tangled and pull itself away from the connector, causing the airbag light to trigger. Toyota is currently working on a fix for this, and anybody that has had this work done prior should notify Toyota as they are to get a reimbursement for it.

There is no CO2 canister or tank on a car. It is all done with a powered propellant (sodium azide) and an electric igniter, and the system is triggered via the Airbag Control Module when a crash sensor passes threshold deployment force.

The carbon canister catches evaporating hydrocarbons from the fuel tank and stores them, which get burned after the engine has warmed up when a valve allows intake vacuum to draw the stored fumes.
