Clattering in The Overhead

i have a 2000 corolla 1.8 vvti, the oil light comes on and goes out as I drive the car and there is a serious noise from the pass side of the engine, chirping and clanking noise and there is noise from the top end of the motor,(lifters not getting oil?). possible oil pump?

It sure sounds like a serious engine problem and the more it is driven the more damage will occur, costing more money to repair.

Getting your car towed to a professional automotive technician at an auto center that is capable of major engine repairs would be a good idea.

Chances are the motor is shot. When the oil light comes on you're supposed to pull over immediately and kill the engine. Dunno why people think driving with the oil light on is okay...

Agreed. They are called, "Idiot lights", for a reason.
