    Oil Leak

Still looks like it's coming from the tensioner to me. It took me 3 times to get mine to stop leaking. I saw a recommendation to visit the local hardware store and grab a thicker o-ring with the same inside diameter to try to improve the situation (which I ended up doing). Bring your old one...

    07 Corolla S heavy steering

I'm glad to hear it has improved already! Thanks for updating. I'm not sure about the black residue, maybe the cap wasn't tight and some particulates from the air accumulated over time?

    07 Corolla S heavy steering

You're welcome! I was trying to see if you could differentiate between the pump and the rack and/or another suspension component. Unfortunately I wasn't any help, keep us posted though. Best of luck! One more thing, it may be worth swapping out the fluid (I'm assuming it's ATF based on the...

2008 Toyota Corolla revving when in idle

Do you have AC on our HVAC controls in the defrost or foot/defrost position?

    07 Corolla S heavy steering

Under normal operating conditions the steering is not heavy from my experience with a 2007 S model (90,000 miles). Could be your power steering pump, steering rack, tie rod ends? I would try a couple of things: 1) put the car in neutral with the e-brake on, turn off the engine, rotate the...

    Question

Might be worth looking into if the timing chain and/or tensioner has been replaced. The engine is inherently a little noisy. There's usually quite a debate over what in particular but it is either the valves or the injectors, but it's more of a tick than a rattle.

    Am I spoiled brat??????????

Just a rough guess, your 2008 is worth maybe $8K? at most depending on the trim, condition and miles. My first car was a 10 year old Saab 900 non-turbo with 100k miles, purchase price of $5,500. I received all kinds of flak for driving a "sporty" and "luxury car" brand. Your Corolla is almost 10...

    Rough Idle/Vibration In D and R

I'm thinking it's related to the torque converter or flex plate. Mine does it too (2007 w/ 90K miles). The highlight of the whole issue is that the vibration is worst in Drive and Reverse and less in Park and Neutral. OP notes it's better upon acceleration, same scenario with mine. Since there's...

    Engine oil leaks, tensioner

Hi Marco, I just resolved this on my 2007 a few months ago as mine was leaking as well. I bought a new $20 tensioner, removed the old, applied some RTV to the new (on the flange) and installed. It wasn't a difficult task. A little tedious removing the old tensioner and installing new as there...

    1ZZ-FE problems solved yet?

Looks like you were right. 8th generation 1ZZ-FEs apparently were notorious for burning oil. It would be nice to find out what exactly they engineered differently on the 9th gen platforms to correct the issue. Edit: Posted too soon. Apparently they revised the pistons on the updated 1ZZ-FE

    Best MPG & Tips?

Wow, you have me beat. 2007 with 85,000 miles, city average around 30-32mpg. Best was maybe 34-36mpg. With the automatic it's apparently rated 26-35mpg. I've seen reports of city averages into the mid 30s somehow. I'd say you are doing quite well!

    1ZZ-FE problems solved yet?

I have a 2007 with 85,000 miles and it doesn't burn a drop between 5,000 mile oil changes with synthetic oil. I've been impressed with the 1ZZ-FE
