2009 Corolla S Starts Then Dies

Fishy, I've done everything from tune-ups to engine rebuilds. Only things I haven't touched are automatic transmissions except for simple fluid and filter changes and minor adjustments. Not sure how Bonkers automotive experience compares but usually people asking for help on a forum generally...

    Fog Lights

No problem. The one thing that sucks about buying the first year of a new generation ... an agonizing wait for parts. Hopefully the turbo kits come out soon. Turbokits.com has kits for the 2013 Corolla S and they have been putting down 200 horses at the wheels on the stock internals...

2009 Corolla S Starts Then Dies

Not sure how you have kept up on maintenance, but at that many miles I would do the upstream O2 sensor, air filter, PCV Valve, and plugs. I replaced the plugs in my Matrix at 60,000 and the electrodes were almost gone (I drive aggressively so those "100,000 mile plugs" have never lasted me that...

Did I Fry My Computer? (No Radio, Power Steering, Blinkers, etc.)

Yeah, that'll do it. Definitely get it on its own power.

    Post Logbook Servicing Requirements

Roll back to the beginning. At 125,000 miles, do the 5,000 mile service (or however they do it for kilometers).

2009 Corolla S Starts Then Dies

Fishy. The fuel filter is located at the pump/sender unit. Supposedly it is a lifetime filter. They don't have in-line filters under the passenger door like 90s - early 2000s Fords do. On my 2008 Matrix you can get to it by pulling the rear seats via an access door (found this out when some...

Did I Fry My Computer? (No Radio, Power Steering, Blinkers, etc.)

Did you install the remote start yourself? Something in the wiring got goofed...

    Fog Lights

Oh, scratch LED's. Not DOT legal on fogs. And yeah, I've seen yellow bulbs but they are all 35W. May have to wait for specific ones to release.

    Fog Lights

As far as the springs go, I'm not sure. They may work, they may not. I'm pretty sure Toyota changed the suspension from the '13 but at a glance they look the same. I know for a fact the engine is unchanged (just the transmissions are different except base 4-speed automatic).

    Fog Lights

The fog light bulb is in the manual (H16 Halogen). Make sure you don't exceed 19W or you'll pop fuses (Some of these bulbs are 35W). Personally, I'd go yellow LED with them.

    Excited New Corolla Owner!!!!

I'd kill for $300 every 6 months. I went from $100 with my 2008 Matrix to $140 with the Corolla per month.

Best Time to Buy a Corolla

Buy online (toyota.com, build & price, then get internet price. Internet sales are the same salesman that do fleet so they want high volume and cars to go out quickly so they can move on to the next deal). Better deals. Sticker on my 2014 S was $22,800 and I ended up paying $20,300. Of...

Changing the Blinks from 3 to 7?

In the manual, it says you can use Entune to change the blinks on the quick from 3 to 5 or 7 (3 is insane at freeway speeds when I typically make slow lane changes, 7 would be perfect). Guessing a dealership needs to do this since the option doesn't show up. 2014 S 6MT with Entune Premium.

    2014 Fuel Mileage

I don't get so close to the trucks that I won't have time to brake. Seen people do that. Cops write reckless tickets if you get that close. You can still benefit from draft while maintaining a safe distance with how short the roofline is on the Corolla. Can keep the mileage bar at 55+ on...

    Lowering

Miss those brakes. Looking forward to when these brakes go out and I can put them on the Corolla. And I got rear disc too :-D

    Lowering

I had EBCs on my Matrix (3GD rotors with Yellowstuff Kevlar). They made the car dive. I planned on stiffer springs before trading it in for the 2014. Yeah, overly stiff springs are bad, but I prefer my springs slightly stiffer than stock, especially when lowering.

    2014 Fuel Mileage

Nice! Are you drafting trucks or shutting the engine down while you coast down a hill?
  18. Donabed Kopoian

    Lowering

Scott, anti-sway bars don't stop nose-dive under hard braking, and they don't allow for minimum suspension travel (which protects the chassis). They also don't protect you from road imperfections in a corner. You still need stiffer springs. Look up the spring rates of a stock car and compare...

How Do I Change the Door Locks Not to Unlock When Going Into Park?

I did this in my girlfriend's 2010. 1. Turn the car on (don't start it). 2. Put it in reverse. 3. Turn car off. 4. Do sequence. If you don't start in Reverse, the car won't recognize a shift into Park or Neutral and it won't work. Took me a minute to figure that part out. As far as the...

Defrosters - Is There a Way to Turn Off A/C

Floor/Defrost is so that some heat goes to the windshield and other heat toward your lower body. It doesn't put warm air out one and cool air out another... The heater core puts out more heat than the evaporator casing can absorb when the engine is warmed up.
