That's about the EPA rating... but many reported better average here. I have the ECO and find the valvematic not that stellar in city (around 30 mpg) but great at highway speed (with cruise control, easily 50+ mpg)

I've never measured the time frame before fan blows cold air in any of my car, so I can't say if the delay. But I've always assumed a short delay is required to first get rid of the X cubic feet of hot air accumulated in the the ducts running between the AC and the dash.

And don't forget the huge price difference !

It's a dealer thing (big one, also selling VW). Some of my friends still do buisness there, but most avoid it. The next one is a smaller, family owned. Night and day experience. It's a 30 minute drive (instead of 10 minutes) but it worth every one of them ! First experience with Toyota also...

My experience and impressions exactly ! Except for local dealer trying really hard to push a different, loaded and overpriced model than the one I wanted - simply went to the next dealer. And even better MPG on highway (LE Eco). Corolla is not the "best" in any unique or spectacular category...

Fake shifts do not occur under "soft" driving. If you reach them then you are already pushing the car. It is perfectly allright and intended that way, but could explain the noise from those sollicited 132 hp @ 6000 !

Well Corolla CVT is programmed primarly for fuel efficiency, thus for gradual acceleration and "soft" driving. I certainly agree that the fake shift points are kind of defeating this purpose and don't transform it into a sport machine. So maybe that is just the car telling you that it is not at...

Not sure I would do it but the hole thing remains under the control of electronic «nannies» that wouldn't let you harm the car anyway. CVTs are far from new except in our market (concept by... Leonardo da Vinci, used in european cars since the mid 1950's and by Toyota itself for 14 years !)...

5X louder is way over the top. Maybe there is something wrong with the car, or its a perception because of the way CVTs keep the revs steady. Fake noise in a Corolla... not ! They are generally quiet, except when pushed. It is not, so to speak, the purpose of the car. Fake shift points are mostly to please reviewers and, at lest with my driving, don't engage... except when the car is pushed ! Maybe it's too late but all you can do is...

Default is on. You have to push it (a couple of seconds) to put it off if you dont want traction control, meaning if you want the whells to spin freely (like for getting out of a snow bank)

I wouldn't say Corolla got bad review from CR : it is one of their recommanded models ! Corolla (rating 71) + Ride, fuel economy, interior space, value, large trunk, secure emergency handling. - Lackluster handling, inconsistent interior quality, too easy to turn off the daytime running...

Mazda CX5, like all Mazdas has a very good reputation, at least in the eye of reviewers... There is also the Nissan Rogue... Yes, so many good choices. That's the difference I mentioned about old and new generation. The new one doesn't event a locking glove box... That being said, it must be helpful with valet service but against a robber that already has unlock your car's doors I guess it wouldn't do much !

Never saw such a feature on any of my car. Was not necessary on older Corolla, as the seat lever was inside the trunk itself, un like the 11th generation where it's at the top of the back seat.

Plus if you are not on a perfectly level surface - even if it seems so - your car might go backward slightly. To me that's one of the most annoying thing on the road...
