Not really odd... As it has been discuss here and elsewhere, CVTs might be new for NA but Toyota has been using them for 15 years (5 years in the Corolla) on other markets.

I find the Corolla slower than other cars I've owned to heat (hurray for heated seats). Plenty of hot air afterward. I think it has to do with heating come cvt components when the car is cold. Also many users/reviewers report that they have to set the temp higher than what is desired.

To me the Corolla is the best economy car (equipment, comfort, mpg, value) in middle trim level (around 20,000$) where it is unbeatable. At 25,000$, there are better options (Focus, Mazda 3 or even the Camry). Personally, I'd rather do something else with the 5,000$ difference !
